I was expecting something different and exciting from C. S. Friedman, but after 95 pages of her new fantasy novel, Feast of Souls, I fell asleep on it. And I never fall asleep on a book.
The story is ordinary and predictable, almost entirely formulaic. It's really slow to start and I just couldn't associate with the protagonist (after 95 pages, we're still not in her head).
Am I the only one to feel that way? Personally, I'd take J. C. Hall's Lady of the Lakes anytime over Friedman's new book.
